Enjoy a safe and healthy holiday weekend! PERSONAL TRAINING SUCCESS STORY Matt is a very self-motivated exerciser, one of a very small percentage of individuals who really enjoy vigorous movement and never seem to bore of it. Nevertheless, after about a year of exercising here at Plaza Fitness Matt thought he might be missing something in his exercise routine, and so he started training every other week. A hernia surgery last year provided the impetus for Matt to focus more attention on his core stability and strength. Jane conducted a Functional Movement Screen (FMS) with Matt and found a couple of asymmetries, which were addressed with corrective exercises. Combined with his regular resistance training and cardio activities, particularly in the warmer weather months when he’s often out bicycling, Matt made measurable progress. Then early this July, Matt suffered a broken collarbone in a motorcycle accident, though thankfully little else was injured. Just two weeks later he was back in the facility on the stair climber, the one activity that wouldn’t jar or pressure his shoulders. Two weeks after that he was back to core training with Jane, and another FMS follow-up was scheduled shortly thereafter. Rather than wait until he was “more fully recovered,” we decided to investigate whether his injury had generated dysfunction or asymmetries beyond the affected shoulder. Sure enough, 3 out of 6 of the movement patterns besides the shoulder mobility pattern were impacted. A new series of corrective exercises will help bring Matt back into balance.
