PERSONAL TRAINING SUCCESS STORY

When Matt arrived at Plaza Fitness in October, he had frequent back pain and a round-shouldered posture. His activity level was not where he wanted it to be, and neither were his body weight nor his muscle tone.

With the guidance of a number of our fitness professionals, including Kyle, Stephanie, Jason, and Jane, the focus on Matt’s fitness turned to stabilizing and strengthening his core, and supporting consistently healthy activity and eating habits.

There are often days when Matt will come in early in the morning to accomplish his cardio-vascular workout, when it fits into his schedule, then return later in the day for a guided session. His regular adherence to our fitness recommendations, along with his intense determination to improve, has led to a significant decrease in his back pain, and activity has even improved his gastric reflux symptoms. Matt’s most recent reassessment also revealed the following results: Body Mass Index down from 29 to 26.5; Body Weight down from 193.5 lbs. to 180 lbs.; Body Fat Composition 19%; Increased muscle endurance; Improved posture; Improved functional movement patterns in Hurdle Step and Rotational Stability.

The wait is over! You know that the book Ultra-Metabolism by Dr. Mark Hyman is the source of many of our wellness and nutritional recommendations. We’ve been out of the books for quite some time but we’ve just received a robust delivery. Please come in and pick up a copy to find out what we’ve been raving about. Ultra-Metabolism remains on the top of our reading list for learning how to combat illness and fatigue, detoxifying and healing your body with whole, healthy foods and healthy activity.

PILATES WORKS FOR ALL

Do you have to already be “in shape” in order to benefit from Pilates training? Well, like other modes of activity, Pilates will help get you moving toward the shape and the optimal health you want, no matter where you are starting from. Pilates’ mind-body discipline is very effective for building stability, muscle balance, postural alignment, and core strength.

Typically, if you’ve never done Pilates before we recommend you begin with a guided one-on-one session so we can accurately assess your unique posture and mobility issues. You may continue with personal sessions, or choose from duets or small group sessions for ongoing support and progress in the Pilates method with plenty of individual attention.

KEEPING UP THE FACILITY

We greatly appreciate the way our members assist us in keeping Plaza Fitness a clean and welcoming wellness environment. As winter trudges on and the rain (and mud) of spring come upon us, we encourage you to please continue to use the “Tenny Two-Step” shoe cleaner, to the right as you enter the facility.

Also, we want to thank you for your patience as we installed the new flooring in the men’s locker room. Member input and assistance from Stuyvesant Plaza, Inc. came together in a very helpful way to minimize the disruption in our operations while the work was being done. Remember that we welcome your suggestions on all aspects of our facility maintenance.
