GROUP EXERCISE SPOTLIGHT

Recently a national magazine article featured the benefits of boxing for fitness. Despite boxing’s tough image, beginning boxers can safely learn lightning-fast jabs and powerful left hooks without body-to-body contact. When you learn the bobbing, weaving, and fancy footwork required to stay out of an opponent’s way you can build coordination, power, and bone strength.

Put on the gloves and join us for Boxing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm with Jerrick Jones, an expert USA Boxing certified coach. There’s also Box ‘n’ Build on Wednesdays at 12:15 pm and Sundays at 8:30 am, featuring intervals of boxing and strengthening drills led by boxer and Plaza Fitness staffer Cory Landy. Check out the entire group exercise schedule.

PERSONAL TRAINING SUCCESS STORY

Tom is a three season cyclist and alpine skier. He initially approached Kyle about improving his skiing ability, as he has been satisfied with his cycling and has exercised regularly for years to maintain his superior leg strength and cardiovascular endurance. Overall fitness often contains more elements than that, so when Tom described his difficulty in executing right hand turns while skiing, Kyle recommended an assessment to determine why. Since he started training in October 2005, Tom has shown dramatic improvements not only in his turning ability but also in skiing with greater ease, stability, and precision. During his initial assessment, Tom scored a “10” on the test battery, whereas in January his re-test score soared to “16” as a result of working with Kyle on a weekly basis.

FEBRUARY MOVE TO LIVE

"Move to Live helped to provide me with the support, knowledge and motivation I needed to start taking my life and my health in a positive direction. Thanks to Korey and all of his helpful staff I feel like I have the tools to be successful." -- Rachel

"Move to Live is a great program that really helps you when you are ready to start losing weight. It teaches as well as motivates and gives moral support. I wish I had discovered it sooner." -- Becky

Rachel and Becky are good friends and are also good at supporting each other’s healthy habits, judging by their success in the Move to Live program. The emphasis of the program is to empower you to make educated choices about healthy eating and activity, and to feel good about consistently pursuing those choices. When you accomplish these things, weight loss usually follows. Well, Rachel and Becky should be feeling really good about their consistency, because they’ve lost 9.5 lbs. and 6 lbs. respectively just in the last three weeks!

Wednesday, February 1st at 7:30 pm will mark the beginning of our next Move to Live program. Learn how you, too, can change your life for the better through activity and healthy eating. This program is absolutely free for both members and non-members with physician referral (forms are available at www.plazafitness.net). Call us at 482-2266 to register.
